Like Job

Scripture

Though He slay me, I will hope in Him. Nevertheless I will argue my ways before Him.  This also will be my salvation, For a godless man may not come before His presence. Job 13:15-16

Observation

I used to hate reading the book of Job.  He came across as a whiner to me.  But then I went through some trying times and now I can’t get enough of Job.  Job is minding his own business when God suggests to Satan that Job couldn’t be coerced into cursing God.  So, Satan takes Job’s wealth, family, and health away.  That leaves three well intentioned friends.  All they do is talk down to Job with an air of superiority.

Job is persistent.  He complains about God, wonders why God would allow this to happen, and even wishes he were dead.  But Job never curses God.  Instead, he puts his hope in God!  He even talks with God!  He has horrible circumstances yet he still seeks God’s presence through prayer.  He knows his own salvation depends on it.  In fact, he KNOWS he is able to come into God’s presence while mere godless men may not.

Application

Job is not a quitter.  He keeps pushing through.  I like that about him.  He is a praying man.  He knows that God is the only One with answers for him.  And He is the only One with answers for me.  I need to pray more and seek His presence.

Prayer

Lord, for what ever reason You have allowed me to experience the trials I am facing, I bow before You and worship You.  By the blood of Your Son I have been redeemed.  I don’t need to know why I have these trials but I want to bring glory to Your Name.  Give me strength.

In Jesus’ Name I pray.  Amen
